The second no-hitter by a Canadian tops this week's list
There were plenty of impressive performances by Canucks in Division I last week.
Let’s look at six of the best.
RHP Tate Carey (Windsor, Ont.) threw the second no-hitter by a Canadian this season when he held Akron hitless over seven innings in the University of Michigan’s 13-0 midweek win. Carey issued a walk and struck out four.
Then, on Sunday, he spun five more scoreless innings as the Wolverines downed Mount St. Mary’s 10-0 in Game 3 of their series to complete the sweep. Carey allowed three hits and fanned seven.
INF Blake Jacklin (St. Jacobs, Ont.) had a .571 average with five RBI and three stolen bases for East Tennessee State as they swept Western Carolina. For his play, he was named the Southern Conference Player of the Week.
University of North Carolina at Charlotte RHP Blake Gillespie (Lucan, Ont.) was named American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week after holding East Carolina to one run over eight innings in a Game 1 win. He gave up five hits, walked one and punched out 11.
INF/OF Liam Bushey (Mission, BC) doubled four times and finished with 11 hits, two walks and two RBI for Western Illinois. He twice had three hits in a game in Game’s 2 and 3 of the Leathernecks series against the University of Tennessee at Martin.
OF JJ Dutton (Toronto, Ont.) produced nine hits, a walk and two RBI for Morehead State. Four of his hits were doubles.
Dutton’s teammate, OF Davis Germann (Kitchener, Ont.) collected eight hits, walked four times, drove in three and stole two bases. He swatted a three-run home run in a win over Southern Indiana.
