This past week's top Canadian D1 performances
A cycle, home runs and a strong start take over the list
The Division I regular season is officially in the books.
For one final time, let’s take a look at the top five Canadian performances from the past week.
INF Evan Wilde (Airdrie, Alta.) hit for the cycle in Niagara’s 17-12 Game 2 win over rival Canisius. His home run was a solo shot.
C Jason Green (Georgetown, Ont.) hit three home runs for Niagara, a solo home run in Game 1 and a two-run shot in each of Game’s 2 and 3 as the Purple Eagles walked away with a sweep and their ticket to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament.
Sticking in Upstate New York, INF Josh Niles (St. Thomas, Ont.) produced seven hits and five RBI for Canisius University. He hit a pair of solo home runs in Game 1 and another in Game 3.
Two home runs for Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville INF Mack Mitchell (Toronto, Ont.) gave him a team-best 19 on the season.
In his final tune up for the American Athletic Conference tournament, RHP Blake Gillespie (Lucan, Ont.) tossed four scoreless innings as the University of North Carolina at Charlotte defeated Tulane 5-0. He allowed four hits, walked one and struck out six. On Monday, he was named the AAC Pitcher of the Year.
